Chile has all the makings of a world-leading exporter of green hydrogen products, like green ammonia and methanol. This potential stems from its abundant solar and wind resources, enabling the country to produce renewable energy at significantly low costs. Chile already has a substantial renewable energy generation capacity and ambitious plans to transition to 80% renewable sources by 2030 and 100% by 2050. The potential beyond this is huge, as Chile’s renewable electricity potential exceeds domestic demand by 70 times. A study by McKinsey highlights Chile’s competitive edge, projecting green hydrogen production costs as low as 1.5 USD per kg. Furthermore, the commitment of international financial institutions, offering around 1 billion USD in concessional financing, underpins the growth of green hydrogen in Chile, setting the stage for an unprecedented opportunity in green H2 exports.

Despite its advantages, Chile faces hurdles in realizing its green hydrogen ambitions. The pace of domestic hydrogen production has been sluggish, exacerbated by the challenge of securing offtakers for green hydrogen, which remains costlier than its gray counterpart. The renewable energy sector is grappling with operational challenges, including high curtailment and overgeneration in the north, alongside unresolved regulatory issues stemming from frozen electricity prices since 2019. Moreover, the development of essential export infrastructure, such as pipelines and ports, is crucial yet pending. The willingness of international markets to embrace Chilean green hydrogen and its derivatives also remains an uncertain factor in this equation.

Dive deep into the potential and challenges of Chile’s journey to becoming a key player in the global green hydrogen market. By attending this webinar, you will

  • Understand how Chile can produce green H2 at competitive prices
  • Gain key insights into potential international markets for Chile’s green H2 products, and the country’s market share
  • Find how what infrastructure is needed for exporting Chile’s green H2 products – what exists and what’s needed
  • Get updates on the progress of Chile’s green H2 projects and their scale-up timelines

Join us in exploring the dynamics of green H2 in Chile and the business opportunities that could open for you in this burgeoning industry, as the country navigates its challenges to harness its full potential as a major exporter of green hydrogen products.
