Portugal’s strategic coastal location, supported by robust gas and renewable energy infrastructure, positions it as an ideal hub for green hydrogen production and export.

The country’s ambitious plans include utilizing renewable hydrogen to decarbonize existing gray hydrogen applications, attracting new industries specializing in green hydrogen derivatives, and exporting renewable hydrogen across the EU, including via the upcoming H2Med hydrogen pipeline network.

While Portugal has many advantages as a renewable hydrogen producer, challenges persist, including delays in transposing EU legislation into national law and a lack of clarity on regulation and permitting. In response, Portugal is taking proactive steps to enhance its investment environment, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and create a more attractive landscape for national and foreign investors looking to tap into the burgeoning renewable hydrogen market. In fact, Portugal has recently attracted the interest of 70 private investors that are seeking to invest €10 billion in renewable H2 projects.

Join this webinar to learn from leading industry experts about Portugal’s green hydrogen prospects and investment opportunities.

  • Explore the pros and cons of the licensing program that eliminates the need for environmental assessments in renewable H2 projects
  • Discover how Portugal’s innovative approach to H2 involves exporting 10% of its production through underwater network connections and sea routes
