Floating solar photovoltaic plants are gaining traction all over the world, with projects under way in more than 60 countries. Around 1.6 GW of floating PV had been deployed in 2021 and the industry could reach up to 4.8 GW by 2026.
And this is just the beginning. In Europe alone, floating PV could generate 25 GW on inland waterways and 45 GW at sea.
Clearly, the potential is huge and there are many benefits to this technology. Floating PV supports the deployment of green energy while freeing up space for other uses, avoiding conflicts over the use of land. It also helps to slow down evaporation in dams and waterways, contributing to water preservation.
However, there are challenges. Floating PV costs between 4 and 8 percent more than terrestrial PV and the regulatory regime is lacking in many countries. On the technical side, the inclination and anchoring of the structure needs to be improved to prevent connections between panels from breaking due to strong gusts of wind.
In this workshop, experts with hands on experience share their insights into the technological, commercial and regulatory aspects of floating PV. Join us at this online session to learn how you too could develop successful floating PV projects.
